Dr. Krzysztof Wikiel was born in Poland, but grew up in Rhode Island and New York state. After attending Warsaw Medical University, he returned to the United States to pursue a transplant surgical research fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He completed his surgical residency training at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. This was followed by a minimally invasive and bariatric surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he remained for an additional year as an attending physician. Dr. Wikiel is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery.
In 2013, Dr. Wikiel moved to Colorado to join the physicians at Western Surgical Care, P.C. His practice encompasses both general and minimally invasive surgery. He has advanced training in hernia repair including both laparoscopic and open techniques. He is the founder of the Western Surgical Care Hernia Center. Dr. Wikiel is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and an associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Wikiel is married – his wife is also a physician! – and has two young children. He enjoys cooking as well as multiple outdoor activities including fly fishing, hiking and mushroom hunting.
